Precarious Towers by Johannes Wallmann
Pianist-composer-bandleader Johannes Wallmann rises to precipitous heights in his 10th album, Precarious Towers, proving his ability to create a concept album, with extra-musical aspects streaming gracefully throughout. His band includes Down Beat magazine "rising star," Chicago alto saxist Sharel Cassity, Milwaukee vibist Mitch Shiner, Madison bassist John Christensen, and Milwaukee drummer Devin Drobka. Wallmann, also director of the UW-Madison jazz program, calls this an "all-star band" of Midwestern talent.

Shepherd Setlist: June 22, 2022
The Shepherd Setlist is a collaboration between the Shepherd Express and Milwaukee music website, Breaking And Entering. Hip hop mainstays Mudy and Chicken P teamed up for a new single. This one's all about flexing and hustling; Mudy raps about going from one move to the next and getting what she wants when she wants it. Chicken jumps in about the broke life not being fun, while having the plugs in the right places. Broke life is, indeed, not fun, but both artists walk the walk with no questions asked. Be sure to throw "Moves" on your summer playlists. (Ben Slowey)

Stay or Go at Ventura's Taco Restaurant
When driving down Kinnickinnic Avenue in Bay View, your eye with catch on a corner taco shop with outdoor seating on the corner of KK and South Ellen Street (2800 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.)—that's Ventura Taco restaurant. While its presence is small, its flavors are big. On a Monday, this is one of the few restaurants open on this block and it was bumping. We popped in to check it out while admittedly on the way to another Mexican spot we frequent.
